You have no doubt heard this many times before, but having a correctly completed LinkedIn Profile is critical if you are in the market for your next career. Your LinkedIn profile is your online CV/Resume and one of the first places people visit to find out about you, so you want to make sure that it gives out the right impression. I created the Successful LinkedIn Profile checklist and it can help you to create a recruiter attracting LinkedIn profile. You can also make a booking to have your LinkedIn profile audited by clicking here.
Build a top 10 list of companies or organisations you would like to work with.
Whilst in most instances, we are encouraged to be unique, when it comes to job search, it's best to be a follower of the companies you want to work with. Visit their websites to find out as much as you can about them and thier activities.
Most companies have a social media company page, not only on LinkedIn but also on Facebook. Following their pages will give you alerts and information on what is going on, and you may even get to hear of recruitment opportunities.
There are usually a number of recruiters who specalise in specific sectors. Search for and connect with them on LinkedIn. Once connected, and after building a rapport, let them know you are looking for a role in the sector. That way, they will keep you top of mind when recruiting.
Make sure you are connecting with people in the companies or organisations you have identified as your target workplace. Don't ask for work immediately but build rapport with them, so that they keep you top of mind
Make sure your CV speaks to the audience you are trying to reach. This help ensure you are prepared in case you are
suddenly asked to send it in.
Once you have built rapport with a few connections, ask if you can have a 'virtual' coffee with them. The purpose of this meeting is to get as much background about your target companies as possible.
An elevator pitch is a summary of the value you offer that can be delivered in 60 seconds or less. What makes you stand out? Have a well prepared elevator pitch that allows you to summarie your skills, knowledge and experience in 60 seconds or less.
When seeking a new job, having others who can vouch for your ability is invaluable. Ask your former employer or senior connections to provide a reference on your LinkedIn profile. This can sell your skills in a way that is difficult for you to do
yourself.
